OnCreate in Preference Activity is called multiple times

I have a SettingsActivity (extends PreferenceActivty) and a LaguangePreferenceFragment (extends Preference Fragment) which only has a ListPreference. I have the header file set up and the actual LanguagePreferenceFragment xml file set up as well. Every time I click on the Preference I have to change the language the menu appears for a brief moment and then another SettingsActivity is created right after. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong (although I have seen every single person online do what I'm trying to do and succeeding). I'm starting to think it's a xamarin problem.
