How do I add an app icon to the home screen on install?

I know it's not preferred practice, but it's a requested feature. When my app is installed, I need it to automatically place an app launcher icon on the home screen (like a desktop shortcut, in case I'm not clear). I saw a stackoverflow link on how to do it in java but wasn't able to implement it in xamarin. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks!
