I spent the past couple of months creating my first iPhone app and now I would like to use that same app for the Android platform. I did some initial testing and the first thing I'm seeing is that the Android emulator is very slow. After reviewing various documentation and forum threads I can see that seems to be the consensus with some suggesting getting an actual Android device which I'm learning toward.
I'm an iPhone user so doing my initial development on an Android device means buying an Android device through eBay or somewhere inexpensively since I would just be using it for testing. Realizing there are numerous screen sizes for Android I would like to try and come as close as possible to picking the current most common screen size in use or at least one of the most common. I'm inclined to pick a device that has a similar screen size to an iPhone 5 since my iPhone app has the size in mind but not sure if that's the right approach.
Any opinions on development/testing on an Android device versus an emulator and thoughts on an Android device that would be good to use in terms of having a device with one of the more common screen sizes?
