My app crashes the entire device - how to determine the cause?

Hello everyone.

I'm currently working on our first Xamarin based cross plattform app. If i run the app in the simulator, everything is 100% fine, there are no performance hickups or anything in that general direction.

But if I start the app on my iPhone 5S, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't react to input at all and sometimes it crashes the device itself. It's basicly like a flip of coin.

When the entire device is crashed, it doesn't react anymore when pressing the hombe button and only holding the on/off button long enough to restart the device does what it is meant to do. The app doesn't process any inputs, the homebutton does nothing and the display doesn't go dark on pressing the on/off button.

After restarting the device, everything is nice again and also the app gets a new shot on working as intended, which is does a couple of times. Another couple of times the app doesn't process any input but the device works fine otherwise and sometimes I get the described behaviour again.

I've read that it's "normal" that the app crashes when you remove the cable of starting the app in debug mode, but this behaviour also happens without removing the cable.

Do you have any ideas on what kind of thing could be the reason for this behaviour?

I'm developing on a Windows 8 with Visual Studio 2017 . On the Mac Mini is the newest Mac OS and also VS 2017. Everything is on the newest currently avaiable version.
